R2-D2 Astromech

Here we have our R2-D2 astromech droid!. It was completely 3D printed using a free open source model from the internet. This R2 unit is life sized at the scale from the movies. He is fully autonomous as well as remote controlled. He contains all the lights, sounds and actions from the actual movies.

  • Printed on: Creality CR10 Pro version 2

  • Print time: ~1 year

  • Print medium: PLA

  • Post processing time (sanding, painting, etc…): ~6 months

  • Including electronics:

    • Scooter motors with regenerative motor drivers

    • 2 x 3S Lipo batteries for power

    • LED’s in the dome and body for visual effects

    • Dome motor for head movement

    • Servos in the arms

    • Running Padawan360 control software for the main unit

    • Raspberry Pi 4 as the main board with sub boards consisting of arduino pro micro’s

    • Controlled by an Xbox 360 controller
